Managing Versions
The information in the Versions panel can be interpreted as:
- List of versions
- First version on top is the default version
- Highlighted version is the one that you are currently making changes to
- Switch between other versions preserving changes between all versions
- Delete a version
- Input to change the name of the highlighted version
- Date created and date modified
- Button to create another version
Benefits of Versioning
Version Management Best Practices
- Create versions for commonly used configurations and remove unused ones
- Use descriptive names that indicate the differences
- Set an appropriate default version for each asset
- Ensure recognizable differences in version thumbnails by setting different backgrounds
Important Notes
Changes to assets and versions are not reflected across the existing scenes, instead, future imports of these assets and versions will use the last modified version. New versions can be replaced in scenes separately.
The versioning system allows for efficient asset management while maintaining file size optimization. Each version references the same base geometry and textures, only storing the differences in configuration.
